The Road To Recovery

The Road To Recovery ❤️‍🩹

In early recovery i struggled. I never got “it” first time in all honesty it took me several attempts before i finally got sober.

This is until i realised where i was going wrong. It was down to my perception of sobriety.

I thought id share this today. If you feel awful the first couple of months you're not drinking, keep on going as that is not what being sober feels like.

That is what withdrawing from an extremely addictive psychoactive neurotoxin feels like. There’s a big difference!

The opposite of #Addiction is #connection , connecting with people and building or being part of a recovery community is absolutely vital.

It’s a true thing when the addict recovers, broken families and friendships also recover and as they heal they also start to reconnect .

My favourite reading or poem is called

“ yesterday today & tomorrow”

Think of the following analogy

Today is the ONLY day you’re actually alive.Yesterday is gone forever

Tomorrow will never happen ?

In other words it’s my own way of saying “ live in the day” forget about tomorrow as there is so much one can do in one day. Especially when we get sober.

You don't have to feel like sobriety is forever.

Because the thought of doing something or not doing something everyday for the rest of your life is a daunting decision.

Especially in the early days of sobriety and we don't need to think of it in such overwhelming and absolute terms.

Be aware to noticing the positive changes as you take it one day at a time. Live in today but plan for the future.

While maintaining abstinence does make life easier to manage, it takes time to learn how to deal with life's challenges without hiding and numbing with mind altering substances.

It is truly amazing how beautiful life can be when alcohol isn't darkening your skies and ripping the gratitude

away from you every day.

You know beyond reasonable doubt that you’re on the road to recovery ❤️‍🩹 when you realise the following quote.

“Sobriety doesn't open the Gates of Heaven and let you in ,it opens the Gates of Hell and let's you out”

Don’t count how many days you are sober. Instead “ make the days count”
